Methodology & Disclaimers
Contributory Period & Birth Month Weighting
CPP contributory periods begin the month after you turn 18. By selecting your birth month, our calculator weights your age-18 year by exact monthly fractions (e.g., November birth = 1 contributory month in year 18), preventing artificial dilution of your earnings average.
Favorable Child Rearing Drop-Out (CRDO)
Under Section 48(2) of the CPP Act, child-rearing years are only dropped if doing so increases or maintains your final average pension ratio. Our tool automatically tests and applies CRDO only when beneficial.
Automatic 17% General Drop-Out
Service Canada automatically removes your lowest-earning 17% of months from the calculation (up to ~8 years). We apply this general drop-out to your month-weighted contributory period.
Pension Formula
Average ratio × 2026 maximum monthly CPP at 65 ($1,507.65, effective January 2026). The 2026 maximum from Canada.ca is the anchor; we use today’s dollars throughout.
